The legality of possessing and using marijuana is very muddled. While Federal law flatly prohibits both, many states and cities have passed laws allowing the sale, possession, and use of marijuana, either for recreational or medicinal purposes. Collectives, which sell marijuana from neighborhood storefronts have proliferated. Three measures pertaining to the sale of marijuana will appear on the City of Los Angeles ballot this May. Should we be more lenient about marijuana use, or should laws be even more stringent?
