On this edition of LA Roundtable, we try to pick up the pieces of the rubble that’s left of our dysfunctional state government. This year’s budget-busting, deficit-ridden state capital fiasco was the most recent episode in a steep and rapid decline in the operation of the State of California. Gridlock in Sacramento has crippled the delivery of state services, operation of public facilities, and the state’s ability to pay its employees and its bills. The once-great “Golden State” is now tarnished, perhaps beyond repair.
So how do we get out of this mess and ensure that it doesn’t happen again? Do we need to re-write the state constitution? Change our most basic laws? Those are the issues facing our panel of experts.
